About Me

As a tenured Associate Professor of English and Writing Program Administrator at Clark Atlanta University, I work at the intersection of access, equity, and innovation in writing studies. My work is grounded in a simple but important belief: every student deserves a writing education that meets them where they are and prepares them for where they are going.

I began as a graduate teaching assistant in first-year composition, and that classroom experience has never left me. Today, I design and lead writing programs, develop curriculum, and create resources that support both students and faculty in building stronger, more equitable learning communities. My teaching spans composition, digital humanities, and the broader landscape of English studies, always with an eye toward literacy development and the holistic well-being of the students I serve

I am a three-time graduate of The University of Alabama, holding a BA in Communications and an MA and PhD in English with a concentration in Composition, Rhetoric, and English Studies. That foundation shapes everything I do, from the classroom to my research.

Teaching

What makes my approach different is simple: I show up as a real person.

I'm close enough to my students' experiences to understand their world, their pressures, and what's actually at stake for them. That proximity isn't just relatable — it's powerful. And I've found that students, especially those who've been underestimated, don't just need a great teacher. They need someone who believes in them before they believe in themselves. I bring that presence into every classroom, every curriculum, and every interaction.

Teaching Philosophy

I teach across modalities — on-ground, online, and hybrid — because meeting students where they are is part of the mission. Every course I design centers student voice, critical thinking, and real-world readiness.
